Cell-based assays for testing bioactive substances

The efficacy or activity of a product/ raw material essentially determines its success on the market. For scientific substantiation, BioTeSys offers in vitro detection methods that demonstrate the effect with relevant endpoints. We would be happy to create a modular work package tailored to your needs. Upon request, we develop or customise detection systems individually.

Methods are established for the following areas:

Cell-free endpoints, e.g:

  • Permeability testing using PAMPA
  • Enzyme activity, e.g. FAAH inhibitor screening, COX inhibitor screening, cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (cAMP-PDE) activity, monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor screening
  • Mucoadhesive effect
  • Determination of the physical compatibility of contact lens care products and eye drops with contact lenses in accordance with ISO 11981

Cell-based endpoints, including

  • Bioavailability testing
  • Differentiation-promoting/inhibiting effect
  • Proliferative effect
  • Antioxidant effect
  • Anti-inflammatory effect
  • Cytoprotective effect
  • Angiogenesis-related effect, e.g. tube formation assay
  • Effect on (energy) metabolism, e.g. GLP-1 release, AMPK activation, glucose uptake, cAMP assay, calcium influx
  • Receptor binding studies, e.g. agonistic or antagonistic effect on oestrogen receptor alpha (ERα) and beta (ERβ), farnesoid X receptor (FXR) [mouse], TRPV receptor binding, 5-HT1A receptor binding
